The Pembroke Welsh Corgi is one of two distinctive breeds known as "Corgis". They are loveable and devoted. They are the oldest breed of herding dog, with a body that can be twice as long as its height.
These dogs are agile and active and require daily exercise. They are small, excellent with children, and thrive on human companionship. They are eager to please and can make great guard dogs.
The Pembroke Welsh Corgis' sweet nature makes them a joy to have around. This happy-go-lucky breed is known for being an intelligent, social butterfly that is easy to train.
The PWC does require regular brushing as they shed year-round. Since the Corgi is also shorter in stature than they are in length, it is not uncommon for them to pick up all sorts of debris in their fur which may lead to more baths than most breeds. However, it is important not to over-bathe them and using baby or doggie wipes in between baths helps prevent drying out skin.
When lifting a PWC it is important to handle them with care. While they are not a delicate breed, their short legs, deep chest, and elongated back can put a strain on their vertebrae. It is important to support their entire body when picking them up and not to let their lower half dangle unsupported.
